Some emo-rock band music coming from my daughters bedroom upstairs.

Not so much listening, more of hearing !!

'A Punchup At a Wedding' by Radiohead.
One of my favourties from Hail to the Thief.
They were beautiful last weekend at Reading.

Searching For Mr Right - Young Marble Giants.

Mmm, a bit minimalist, like. Saw them on the telly on a "Rough Trade at the BBC" playing "Wurlitzer Jukebox" (you can check out the programme on iplayer, YMG are the first band on) and something about them appealed. I kind of remember them when they released the album "Colossal Youth" in 1980 (incredibly it was something of a hit) but I was an impatient young teenager then and YMG were a bit too fey. Sparse lo-fi instrumentation and Alison Statton's gentle, naive voice are quite an attractive combination.

Another album on the wish list then.

<Edit> From the same programme, just how good were Microdisney? Great melodies and fluid guitar backing Cathal Coughlan's acerbic words. "Feed the birds poisoned bread" indeed. Should've been massive.

"Blue Skies" - Noah And The Whale
From the album "The First Days Of Spring"

This is a masssive step forward for NATW and one of my fave albums of the year.

"Blue Skies" reminds me of "Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken?" from LLoyd Cole & The Commotions' Rattlesnakes album for those of you old enough to remember

I thoroughly recommend this album

I listened to bits of their last two albums after hearing the above. Not sure I like the singer's voice, it's a bit high-pitched (the bloke who sings on All The King's Men normally does backing vocals - shame really). I do like the music though, reminds me of XTC in places and can even hear a slight Elbow influence.
