Anybody else around here love the ethereal beauty that is Sigur Ros at their best?

Agaetis Byrjun and Takk for example?

I kid, I kid...but seriously, I love Sigur Ros. Don't have all the albums, just Takk, the parentheses one, and the new one (Hvarf-Heim). I can't tell you how often I play Saeglopur; the way that track sounds is just killer.

I have the two albums you said, Hotblack... and like you I love Agaetis Byrjun passionately. WHS WHS WHS! It really is stunning beginning to end. Very Happy My favourite song is Hjartaő Hamast (Bamm Bamm Bamm) - it's like, we've got this beautiful sound... let's whack some jazziness in there! Brilliant.

They're my favourite two. the () album is a bit patchier but worth getting IMHO. Havrf/Heim, the new double is a bit mixed. Not too keen on the new work but the stripped down re-mixes are excellent.

Mm I haven't heard much good said about () apart from one arty girl when I was at school. =\
But hey I must get what I don't have eventually, loving AB as much as I do...

As a long standing SR fan the comments on here are really interesting. Many fans love AB but acknowledge that the true spirit of Sigur Ros lies in the 8 untitled tracks of '( )'. It is in my top 5 records of all time, always will be and will unlikely ever be bettered by anything they do. SR have made and will continue to make beautiful records bit it's probably true to say that every band has their 'moment' and '( )' was almost unquestionably theirs. For anyone looking to 'get into' SR, get Takk... first as it's easiest (whilst in no way dumbed down...) and then if you get it, get '( )' and give it LOTS of time. The rewards are immeasurable.

I thought () was a bit harder to get into at first, but what it lacks in immediacy it more than makes up for in the overall "wowness" of the sound. Once you get there, it's worth the trip.

Yes, () and Agaetic Byrjun are their two best albums, also a couple of great tracks on Takk, Glosoli and Hoppipolla are my favorites Was really dissapointed by their last album, Hvarf/Heim, didn't measure up to any of the previous albums if you ask me. Still, really looking forward to seeing them in August cheers

Sigur Rós are one of my favourite bands of all time. Just such beautiful, interesting, diverse music. I own pretty much everything they have made and if anyone doesn't have Heima yet then buy it! It is a wonderfully made film about the band on tour and their homeland. I am still yet to see them but they are on my mental list of bands to see before I die.

I woke up this morning from a dream where I was listening to a glorious Sigur Rós cover of Starlings.

Gorgeous it was too - let's hope it gets done sometime!

Wow...would I ever love to hear THAT! Very Happy

In case anyone is interested, Jónsi, the lead singer of Sigur Rós, has a solo album coming out this spring. There is a free MP3 dowload available of the first single (on his website, right here: http://www.jonsi.com/ ) , and it is a great song. I have been playing it to death for the better part of 2 weeks now, and am loving it in a big way. I am pretty excited to hear the rest of the album; if the other tracks are near as good as this one, I'll be delighted!

Also, for those who don't already know about it, last year Jónsi released an album with his partner/collaborator, Alex Somers, called Riceboy Sleeps. It is instrumental, ambient music and very lovely. Jónsi and Alex have their own website as well (http://jonsiandalex.com/music) where you can stream the whole album and get a free download. You can also watch their videos of cooking demonstrations...they are certified raw food chefs and they put up a few video recipes which look tasty. I have already made the Macadamia Monster Mash for friends and it is delish!

Sigur Ros is one of the 3 bands (with Muse and Elbow) that blew my mind when I discovered them.

You can guess which of their albums is my favourite one. But they are all wonderful. Maybe the last one is mid leveled...
Sigur Ros is the first post rock band I listened to, and it made me go out pop rock/rnb mtv stuff. It made and still makes me go on a journey, as if the sun and the clouds were my closest friends.

If you don't know them,. well KNOW THEM !!

There's an amazing progression between their first two albums "Von" and "Agaetis Byrjun", one of the most striking I've ever heard. AB almost sounds like a completely different, and far superior band.
Infact that'd be an interesting thread......................................................

I like it but I don't love it. It's got a lot of beautiful moments but nothing that grips me. Maybe it's not fair to compare it to their earlier work, but I do find it more emotionally flat than some other albums they've done. Still skillfully done and damned pretty, though.
