Only recently acquired some of her stuff but have known about her for ages. Initial impressions (several years ago) were pretty unfavourable. I thought it was just generic indie guitar stuff. Having finally got around to sitting down and really listening to her I have reversed my opinion completely. She's excellent.

I'm currently enjoying 'Dry', 'Is This Desire' and 'Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea'.

Slightly disappointed that she played in Oxford last week and I missed her. Crying or Very sad

This thread was inspired by seeing that Glendarian mentioned that she's off to see PJ soon (in the Grey Expectations thread which I feel I ought not to invade too often. Smile )

I always thought she was a powerful and credible female singer, and intend to see her next live show, assuming she plays near the South Coast of England.

I have friends who are big fans of hers but I haven't gone beyond a quick listen to a song or two. Don't know why because what I've heard of her is very good! She's one of those that I "should" like but have never gotten into for whatever reason.

I'm right there with you, Topaz...I have to be in a certain mood to listen to PJ Harvey. She's a shade too goth for me and I admire her more than I enjoy her.

As Hotblack mentioned I'm going to see her with John Parish tomorrow - looking forward to it! Although from what I've heard of their new album I still like her last one, White Chalk, best so far, though after a live show that may change...

I actually felt rather like you two at one stage, Topaz and Chrissie - i.e. I had one or two tracks and felt I "ought" to like her more than I did, until Guy played the track Send His Love to Me on his programme, which I loved and was kind of a "way in" to liking her music. He also said at the time he'd like to marry her and make her Polly Jean Harvey Garvey but that's another story. Smile

Well, she (they - actually billed as PJ Harvey & John Parish) was wonderful; she's a really compelling performer. A live performance can often change the way you see/hear things and A Woman A Man Walked By is now firmly in the list of albums I love by her (/them). Brilliant.

Hi Guys, Am off to see PJ Harvey & JP in Manchester on Friday, only played their latest offering once, so could do with another couple of listens. Never seen PJ Harvey live before, but have most of her albums, love Dry and Stories From The City...., White Chalk is very barren, still not sure if I love it or just think it's OK. Sheela Na Gig is one of my all time favourite songs, just love it.

Definitely with Garvey, she's looked mighty fine at times during her illustrious career !!

Very Happy

Hope you enjoy ity as much as I did MBV! It was all songs from PJ & JP's two albums and seeing them live really confirmed them up with her other albums for me. Somehow I'd assumed from what Howe Gelb said that they'd already been to Manchester - oh well, must have been another visit he was referring to - anyway he was brilliant too so make sure you get there in time to catch him. Smile

I saw her at the Manchester show with John Parish and thought she was brilliant. The two albums she made with him I'm pretty lukewarm about but they definitely translate better live. Had a great time!

Was also at the Manchester gig, I thought it was very different than most gigs I go to, and despite not knowing much of the duo's material, really enjoyed it. Her voice was unbelievable. A great, knowledgable and respectful crowd aswell.

However, am still dying to see her solo.

Can't believe there isn't already a thread for her, so forgive me if there is and I'm being blind.

Just got Let England Shake, what a wonderful album. Totally lived up to the expectations.
