| Excluding Elbow whose five albums could easily be listed here, and Queen who have too much across several albums to name just one:
Nick Cave - Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (just... love). Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon ELO - A New World Record Oasis - The Masterplan (B SIde heaven... more depth and emotion than any other Oasis album). Manic Street Preachers - This is My Truth Tell Me Yours (panned by many but I adore it). |

Funny that... i toyed with queen's live killers as being a way to get their best work in once place... also, concur on your choice of MSP album, i love it although it would only just make my top 10... |

| 1. U2 - Pop. My favorite album, ever. What happened to them after this is anyones guess.
2. U2 - Achtung Baby. Talk about a sonic re-invention!
3. Radiohead - In Rainbows. (A cross between 4 outstanding albums, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and Hail To The Thief and all rolled into one). Brilliant.
4. The Beatles - The White Album. The absolute peak of bands creative development.
5. R.E.M. - Green. I love good old guitar based rock. Green is that to me.
No Elbow? This is an Elbow forum, I love them, I could not live without any of their albums, including Build A Rocket Boys! |

| Today's five would be:
1. The Beatles Blue Album - My daughter loves The Beatles and whenever I hear them I will always think of her, long after she has flown the coop.
2. Genesis Duke - Gotta have a Genesis album in the list and this one is the perfect blend of the cerebral lyrics of Banks, the more overt immediacy of Collins, with Rutherford occupying the middle ground. Great instrumentals, too.
3. Frank Sinatra and Basie At The Sands - My favourite Sinatra period. Basie's band really cast out old demons on these arrangements and Sinatra is in fine form, vocally, and is near the knuckle with his between-song banter.
4. Frank Zappa Joe's Garage - Could be my favourite Zappa album. It's certainly the most entertaining concept album ever made, with wild lyrics and amazing playing from the band.
5. Miles Davis In A Silent Way - I could easily pick from five Miles albums to put in my five albums that I can't live without. This is such a beautiful record, so ahead of its time. I can listen to this on a loop for hours and never tire of it.
