Bought their single "Last Of The Melting Snow" at Christmas as part of a Christmas bundle from Willkommen Records (also included albums from Shoreline, Sons Of Adrian & Noel and a compilation)

I felt that The Leisure Society was the standout track

Wanted to go and see em at the Ruby Lounge in April but I'm on holiday

Is it some kind of blasphemy to say I'd like Nick Hemming to win? Wink

No. That's not blasphemy.

Let Nick have 'best song' and Elbow 'best contemporary song' and I'll be satisfied. Laughing

I've eventually got round to buying this CD - its' exquisite! I've had it on in the car for days now. If you haven't got it yet - I really recommend it. It's like aural warm cream! The Leisure Society sound as though they've been around for decades - it all seems so effortless, which belies their obvious musicianship. I bet this is a contender for the Mercury Prize this year - No - I bet they win the Mercury this year.

Just thought I'd remind you that they're playing for free on Sunday 2nd August in Cardiff - part of the Cardiff Big Weekend at 4pm. (supporting the Zutons!?)

What a weird gig - My family and I were the only people there who had ever heard of the band. Picture us - standing in a crowd of drunk, prostrate Cardiffians at 5 in the afternoon who were hoping for some sort of boy band. We were all singing along like mad - thoroughly enjoying it, but I really don't think it went down well with the rest of the crowd - they were waiting the Lightning Seeds and the Zutons. They did a cracking version of Gary Newman's Cars and a few other songs that weren't on the album. I'd love to see them do a full set. I'm not a musician, but Nick Hemming's guitar was a thing of beauty - pale blue and chrome.

I think I'll be listening to the album again constantly for a week or so. I love this band!

I just got their new EP, A Product of the Ego Drain, which leads off with a new version of "Save it for Someone Who Cares." The song's melancholy on The Sleeper, while the new version is brighter and peppier.

The cover of Gary Numen's "Cars" is surprising. I'm not sure that the song lends itself to the kind of folk production that The Leisure Society brings to it, but it is unique to listen to.

The standout track on the EP is probably "If God Did Give Me A Choice."

One other Leisure Society track to find is the cover of George Harrison's "Something" on Abbey Road Now! from last month's MOJO.

And I still find myself, after six months, listening to The Sleeper once or twice a week. Smile

I didn't realise they were bringing out a new EP - excellent! I had heard their newer version of SIFSWC, but I wasn't that taken by it. Perhaps it's that old adage of always preferring the first version you hear. I'ts definitely going on my Christmas list!

I, too, still listen to the album regularly - I simply don't understand why it hasn't taken off more than it has.

Part of the problem could be with their old record company.
When I tried to buy The Sleeper from my mate who is the manager of a small independent record shop, he told me that he hadn't heard of it. Now this is a bloke who knows more than anyone about what is available, current, obscure you name it. When he investigated and tried to order it direct from the record company, he reckoned they weren't particularly professional.

They've recently changed labels, so hopefully this will give them the exposure they deserve.
