Truly awesome band. Saw em live last October and they were mental...so intense and loud! Buy everything they made people!

I have Young Team, it's a very cool album. Haven't gone further yet, though!

I heard about that too. The assistant in our local little recordshop said, they were VERY loud in Berlin. Someone in the depths of the internet called them the loudest band beside Manowar affraid
I could have seen them live, they were in Berlin just one day after Elbow in Cologne and one day before Elbow in Berlin but I was worried it might be too much to have three concerts after each other without getting enough sleep.... Embarassed Because I needed some strenth for another Elbow Gig in Hamburg (which was the coolest thing I ever had....)
And maybe I would have spoiled my hearing and would have a huge tinitus Shocked
But next time they show up in Germany I might go there (with earplugs of course! What a Face )

I'm very moved by this film with "Adelia", that nice old Lady is much more beautiful than those botox spoiled old barbies in Hollywood!!
Made me a bit depressed although because I want to be a nice old lady too one day and it's not too easy to believe in that while fighting a c-monster... but I try to be optimistical, because my Granny was such a nice whitehaired lady too and all my grandparents grew older than 80...even my asthmatic grandpa Smile

And I'd love to play bassguitar in some band in Mogwai style...tweedling sleepy "Like herod", then check a look at the other musicians...one...two...three...four...NOISE!!! What a Face

Mogwai rule... love em. Saw them in Brisbane at the start of March. I own practically all their albums and thought I knew what I was getting myself in for volume wise, but nothing could have prepared me for how LOUD they were. I am quite certain my tinnitus has upped a few notches from the one gig.

That said, i'm glad I experienced it once sans earplugs. Never jumped so much in all my life as the thundercrack half way through Mogwai Fear Satan. Incredible.

I don't think I have heard anything by Mogwai but I read somewhere that they are an instrumental band. Is this correct?

They are mostly instrumental, their new record has no vocals but on earlier records they had sometimes guest singers or sometimes the guitarist sings or the keyboarder (via vocoder)

i'm not totally familiar with all their work, but "my father my king" is one of my favorite songs, definitely check it out, also there are a lot of recorded live performances on archive.org with really great sound quality

MFMK is excellent. The way it builds and builds and somehow still manages to get subjectively louder is rather amazing. I haven't seen it in the shops for years unfortunately. Might have to pull my finger out and order it through Amazon or somewhere.

One of my favourite archive.org recordings of the track from 2006 is at...

...for the curious.

I was a bit worried downloading MFMK because it is just one track (at least a 20 minute long one) but the prize is like a whole record...I ordered the Zidane one a while ago but it did not arrive til yet Mad Maybe I*ll try MFKK

Yes, the band named themselfs after the fluffy animal in "Gremlins". They were not so happy about their name but I think it fits well. Like Gizmo the mogwai they are sweet but dangerous Wink

I believe it is also Cantonese for 'devil' or 'demon'. Did they take the name from the film or the Chinese meaning because there is plenty of oriental imagery on their early work.
