PostSubject: Bitten by the Tailfly meaning...   Sun 07 Dec 2008, 14:56

Just read that "Tail Fly" is said to be a strong cocktail...
http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/70431/

googled but just found "Blue Tail Fly" a "shooter" with Curacao and Creme de Cacao
http://www.droogle.ca/drinks/18946

Anyone knows by chance this "harsh cocktail"?
And anyone here who can explain this story by Guy. I am not sure if I understood all:

"There was a point where I was working at The Roadhouse in Manchester and the girl I was seeing at the time I'd been unfaithful to and I hadn't told her and I was in a filthy mood, I'd had the worst day I've ever had. Some guys stole this taxi that me and the girl were getting into and I decided I was hard for the first time in my life, behaving just like that character (in the song). I got knocked to the floor and kicked in..."

Bearing in mind 'Tailfly' is about a fella who's selfishly picking up a girl, by using charm and wit to seduce her then dropping the act once he's snagged her in his net (a metaphor there around spiders catching flies in the web), if the story's related it sounds like Guy is likening his experience to being as close as he's got to being as coolly heartless and tough as his character.

The payoff to the story is that Guy's ability to be hard and aggressive doesn't work (anywhere nearly as well as the amoral fictional fella), as he gets punched for trying to reclaim the taxi after a bad time caused by his guilty conscience. Maybe Guy's subtext is that being selfish, unfaithful and aggressive gets you nothing good - except a good beating. Bad karma will get you in the end...

Hope you're doing OK TL Smile
