Is this the 'Massively over rated musicians/bands' thread? No? Oh sorry, I'll be on my way then.

Massively overrated? Hendrix was a very skilled musician, and that's all he's ever hyped to be. Not overrated.

I disagree with the overrated comment as well.

He was an amazing musician. A groundbreaker. No one was doing what he was doing at the time. Or now for that matter. Who else sounds like that?! He should be remembered, respected, and oohed and ahhed over for it, damnit!

Oooh....ahhhh....Jimi.

He was a darn good songwriter too. My favourite of his is 'Stone Free'.

Unsurprising to see that the "overrated comment" has had no further attempts at justification.

Although my favourite guitarist is John McLaughlin, Hendrix was the one who opened the door through which everyone else followed. He'd have been another Miles Davis had he lived longer (in fact, he inspired Miles to "go electric" in the sixties, a move which alienated some jazz purists but also ushered in a new wave mof music: fusion) and no doubt would have reinvented himself as many times.

He was considering joining Emerson, Lake and Palmer at their formation... he was to be part of the project. It would've been H.E.L.P. then! Read that somewhere on wikipedia.

Hendrix in ELP? A shocking loss.
