I'm very, very saddened by the news. RIP to Rick, indeed. He was an inspirational muscian and a wonderful person.

God bless him for the shivers he has sent down my spine over the years. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part I, Any Colour You Like, Don't Leave Me Now, Sheep, Saucerful of Secrets, Welcome to the Machine...

Just listened to The Great Gig In The Sky - as Trevor says, it seems rather appropriate.

Felt sad - as I often do when I listen to music from those who have died - whether it be Nick Drake, Ian Dury, Kirsty MaColl or Jimi Hendrix. RIP Rick.

<trivia>
Clare Torry who sang the famous backing vocals on this track also sang the theme tune to the 70s/80s sitcom Butterflys

And she sang on Culture Club's "War Song"

War, war is stupid, and people are stupid....

Culture Club and Carla Lane sitcoms. I guess after Floyd the only way to go is down...

I was shocked by the news. Cancer; who knew?

Rick had a deftness of touch that set him apart from other keyboardists of the time. Along with Genesis, Pink Floyd are my favourite progressive band from that era, and Rick Wright, as well as being a grand musician, seemed to be such a sweet and gentle soul.

RIP Rick

I always loved how Roger Waters sacked him after The Wall, only to take him on as a salaried musician for the tour, and subsequently Wright was the only Floydie to profit from it.

Ah, bitter irony, you can't beat it! Yeah, Waters has been a bit of an arse in the past hasn't he? Don't really have much time for him, to be honest.

He's seemingly a lot more chilled out, and deeply regretful of his actions in the past.

There's a nice scene on Dave's Remember that Night DVD in which it turns out Roger has rented out the building next door Dave's band's rehearsal room. They have a hug! He's a marshmallow after all Very Happy

Well, David Gilmour has got nothing to gripe about, success being its own reward; it's Waters who's done all the carping ever since he left the band, not thinking they could ever carry on without him. I think Roger's a good writer, don't get me wrong, but Gilmour outflanks him in every other respect. He's even a better bassist than Roger Waters!

We listened to Atom Heart Mother in the living room the other day... I always forget it's actually really really cool. Shame about that annoying bit which reprises all the other parts... at once.
