Only just spotted this thread, cheers AITB.

I too love the Furries. They really are awesome, and you're right about them being one of the best live bands ever.

The Furries are stunning, one of the best bands of the last 10 years or so. They constantly put out great material and play brilliant live shows. In my humble opinion i think Radiator is their pinacle, but it's a tough call really as each album is different..

To drag this thread back from the depths, a head's up to those who might be interested, the super Super Furry Animals have got a new album out either now (mp3 from here) or April 13th (CD).

Called "Dark Days / Light Years", you can preview one of the tracks, "Inaugural Trams" here. I like, it's a jaunty little tune with a bit of german rap, pretty lightweight by SFA standards, but even throwaway SFA tracks are fun, IMO.

Go SFA!

P.S. I've just heard some other tracks and am ordering the CD right now. It sounds ace, it really does. This Quietus review seems to agree with what I've heard so far. What a great band!

SFA are one omy all time fave bands, must have seen them 8 - 10 times all over the North West. Agree with Chris McW that Radiator is probably there most brilliant LP but they've not made a duff one at all in my honest opinion. Their live shows are breathatking, innovate and imaginative with the lights and imagery absolutely mesmerising. What goes on inside Gruff's head, well one can only imagine !!

One song that they do live, Slow Life, I think, he comes on stage with a motorcycle helmet on, visor down, and belts it out, bizarre but brilliant.

Top 3 live bands of all time are early Oasis, SFA and Elbow, just don't ask me to put them in any order !!

Went to their gig at Somerset House last night. Wow!

Superb it was. They are so fluid yet so tight. Nigh on 2 hours of utter brilliance, played some of the latest album (Crazy Naked Girls may be so-so on the album, but live it was electrifying) and loads of old faves.

Just ace, really.

Nice one Mr K, such a shame they've not toured this LP, haven't seen them live for 4-5 years, would love to see them soon. Sounds like a belter of a night.

For you info, MBV, this was the setlist.

1. Slow Life (probably one of my top 5 songs ever, so a good start!)
2. (Drawing) Rings Around The World (MUCH better live)
3. Juxtapozed With U
4. Golden Retriever
5. Hello Sunshine
6. Mt.
7. Moped Eyes
8. Demons
9. Inaugural Trams
10. The Very Best Of Neil Diamond
11. White Socks/Flip Flops
12. Pric
13. Earth
14. Blerwytirhwng?
15. The International Language Of Screaming
16. If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You
17. Neo-Consumer
18. God! Show Me Magic (just so good to hear this again)
19. Crazy Naked Girls
20. The Man Don't Give A **** (which of course got the whole crowd pogo-ing)
21. Keep The Cosmic Trigger Happy

Pretty good, eh?

Two final things to note -
1. Somerset House is a fabulous venue, visually splendid, and being a closed courtyard, really holds the sound in.
2. The crowd was probably the most relaxed and cheerfully chilled I have ever experienced at a gig - particularly in London! Incredibly varied mix of ages and types too. Only one crocodile, though.

Thats a splendid setlist, totally agree with Slow Life, absolutely spellbinding that song is. Yes, there a re a few more I'd have liked to have seen on the setlist, Play It Cool, Venus and Serena, Hermann loves Pauline, Northern Lites, but with a back catalogue as big and as varied, you're always gonna have that, unless they did a 4 hour set !!

Yep.have heard some good comments about the venue from friends in London. Thumbs Up!
