No drummer announcement yet...interesting that their promo pics are all coming out with only four of them. They must be using a session player

i'd seen craig mention this in passing on twitter before, that they were sorted for "session drummers" - looks like they haven't replaced him in the traditional sense and they're a foursome for the time being.

Yeah...would be difficult to bring a new member after that many years. Shame though, speaking as a drummer, we can bring a lot to the band as a whole

who's been doing the drumming on guy's solo stuff? wouldn't be surprised if his name appears somewhere perhaps?

its good that theyve chosen ot go with lots of little venues, rather than a few arena gigs... wonder what the motivation behind that was?

wonder if guy will miss his runway? Very Happy

In regards to drumming, read an interview a little while back with Mark saying that Alex Reeves is going to be drumming with them on tour. Should be exciting!

Yay! US tour dates announced today!

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
01 NOV - Paradise Club, Boston MA
02 NOV - Webster Hall, New York City, NY
03 NOV - Webster Hall, New York City, NY
04 NOV - 9:30 Club, Washington, D.C.
06 NOV - Danforth Music Hall, Toronto, ON
07 NOV - St. Andrews Hall, Detroit MI
08 NOV - The Vic, Chicago IL
10 NOV - The Showbox, Seattle, WA
11 NOV - Roseland Theater, Portland OR
13 NOV - Fox Theater, Oakland CA
14 NOV - The Observatory, Santa Ana CA
16 NOV - The Wiltern, Los Angeles CA

Not sure about whether I will manage one of these this time around. My kid is college-bound next year and we have been saving for it, or trying to anyway. Any funds not being saved for college are being spent on taking visits to tour colleges! So, if I can go to any of these, it will be the 9:30 show in Washington, but odds are not great for having the cash. We'll see how it goes... Haven't seen any posts yet from the shows so far, but hope they've been awesome for anyone who's been going!

Nearest show to me is Seattle...that's an 11 hour drive. They aren't even coming to Vancouver this time.

I told Pete last time I saw him they should come to Calgary, the bugger! Ah well

Morning all. Surprised that I'll be the first to provide any reports from the current set of gigs, but there you go.  Was at the Usher Hall last night, and - I seem to say this every time I see them - they really do seem to get better every time.

First thing that you notice is that there's no Jupp out front - Alex Reeves is positioned at the back line of the stage, along with the string section (Valentina and Begita) and Craig's keys.  Leaves Pete, Mark, and Guy up front, and Craig occasionally joining them when he's on percussion duties.

Anyway, start off with Gentle Storm was the four of them only, all at the front - really nice way to kick things off.  Straight into The Bones of You, and that's when Alex joins them - I thought his style was a little more powerful than Jupp, but not that you'd really notice too much. However, the material from LF was much more powerful live than the studio version, particularly Little Fictions itself. Wow. That should be a live favourite for a long time to come.  Just fantastic.

Having looked at the setlists from previous shows I was hoping that we would get SB&W (nothing against Great Expectations, but SB&W is my favourite Elbow track...) - and when Guy started introducing the next up by talking about sitting on the floor with his grandfather surrounded by old photographs, I knew my luck was in.  Lovely intro, and as always, creates a hair on the back of the neck moment.  Beautiful.

Main set ended with the big crowd singalong to ODLT, complete with harmonies and moments without the band.  I know it happens every time, but it's still a great moment, and shows the engagement between the crowd and band.   A few other "community" moments - the arm-waving to My Sad Captains ended up with many in the crowd, after being prompted by Mr Garvey, to put the smart phone torches on - much better than it sounds! A very random story about their good mate Bob...  And a call and response to Alex - every time his name was mentioned, a retort of "Reeeeeeevvvvvveeeeeesssssss..."

Short encore - Lippy Kids, and then GFD, sounding as powerful as ever and with great singalong as well.   And, well, that was it.  1 hr 45, 15 songs, and overall a fantastic show with no dull moments (and a great support in C Duncan).  Would always like a bit more, a few more from pre SSK era included (although I did get these at Hammersmith a few years ago...), but I shouldn't complain - it's great to see them playing these venues again rather than the arenas of the last few main tours, and, as always with Elbow, leave you wanting more, and checking the bank balance and calendar to see if you can make it to any more shows!
