I'm not entirely sure what the ettiquete is with posting live recordings on this forum (most band fan forums have specific sections for unofficial live recordings, so it's obvious), but I think I've seen a couple posted in this section of the forum, so here we go.

A matrix of Mark Potter's wireless in-ear monitor feed mixed with an audience recording.

I'm pretty sure this is Mark Potter's feed. Guitar is quite high in the mix, at any rate. Not a bad sounding feed though.

Unfortunately, 4 songs are AUD only. For Lippy Kids, Mirrorball & With Love it was may fault - I scanned away to a different feed with terrible reception and did not notice the reception failure for 3 songs. Tower Crane Driver because the feed had a metronome switched on. I tried a few things with it, but in the end, it sounded best when I just dropped the IEM out completely. So yeah.

Still, for most of the show when I'm on the right frequency, it's all pretty fucking nice. A few patches of interference, par for the course. No tech/band comments or chatter or spoken count-offs. There are some drumstick count-offs not sent through the main PA, but that's tiny minor.

AUD was pretty good all the way through. I was near a bunch of very well behaved patrons. Little bit of loud close clapping between songs, but not a lot.

Unfortunately the Bass was coming through the PA very loud and distorted in a few parts. This is reflected on the tape.

I applied a bit of EQ (mostly to reverse the EQ of the scanner, and take some of the bass distort out of the AUD), and no compression. You'll need to turn up your stereo a little, but it's so worth it. The dynamics on so many of their songs don't do well at all with lots of dynamic range compression. Starlings will basically blow your face off. The IEM is massively compressed already anyway from the scanner, so it helps to balance out during the quieter spoken sections between songs etc. A very rudimentary and uncontrolled (and unavoidable) form of Paralell Compression I suppose.

Like Kings of Leon, not a lot of stereo imaging or anything. Meh, oh well.

Lead Vocals are maybe a little low, but then again I usually think that lol.

Thanks for going to the trouble of posting that, Tailschao. Looking forward to having a listen.

Good point made about no obvious thread. MT, our Admin, cleared putting boot links on here recently so maybe time for a more organised approach to share. Will look into that.

Thanks Tailschao,

I was just about to post regarding your point about a recording section, and as usual mrswoman beat me to it...prob cos I am 4 hours behind her Smile

I think it's a good idea, and as Elbow management seem to have no problems with recordings (thankfully) I'll look into it.

MT

Wow Tailschao!

What an innovative way of recording a gig. You must have a lot of pockets!

Thanks for recording and sharing. Very Happy
