Elbow's Guy Garvey Announces New Album Title, Release Date

Tags: Elbow, Guy Garvey
According to Elbow's frontman Guy Garvey, in an interview on BBC 6 Music on Tuesday, and on Elbow's own forum on their website, the Mercury Prize-winning band's next album will be called Build A Rocket Boys!. It will be released on March 7 in the UK (and likely March 8 in the States). And there's even a tracklisting making the rounds.

Good to see we're getting recognised. Has anyone else noticed that the forum is listed as one of the 'things we like' on the official Elbow website?

Hmmm, wonder if track 8 is the Joni Mitchell song covered?

Probably not, as Elbow have a 'the' just as they have a 'the' for Birds song which could also be a cover Question

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Birds/dp/B002C7TW44

link to original album 'birds' came from http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grim/dp/B001QU2APQ/ref=sr_shvl_album_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1293025720&sr=301-2

Where has the tracklisting come from? Promos or leak?

No your not, when Elbow had the website for 'Cast..' or' Leaders...' and Powderblue was the elbow fan forum,
that had a link in the Official Elbow website too.

Honest opinion...I think the sleeve is so minimilistic it is verging on banal, and that same light background as before gets so grubby and dogeared so quickly.
Maybe the inside illustrations will be interesting?
Will it be the same as TSSK so that people who buy the album are paying £3 more for just a couple more of Oliver's cartoons, but the same CD? or is there a DVD or extra tracks for digipack?
Elbow digipacks of new albums used to have a DVD with them.

I do like the final choice of title....lots of scope for interpretation with music and art there.

Guy Garvey said of the album: "I didn't know whether it was good or not for a couple of weeks, but I'm very happy with it now."

Garvey said that the band's new material had been written with the tour's venues firmly in mind. "It's impossible not to consider where you're going to play your music live when you write it," he said. "We very arrogantly assumed we were going to be playing arenas very early on."

Just got an email!! The album website is not up and running yet but it's there!

Yes, it's true. Elbow will be releasing their fifth studio album 'build a rocket boys!' on 7th March 2011.

The album was recorded at Blueprint Studios in Salford and was again produced and mixed by keyboard player Craig Potter.

You can preorder your copy now at Play.com or HMV.co.uk.

Stay tuned for a special surprise on Boxing Day.

Merry Christmas

Hmmm yes, me too... but the article posted on another thread talked about what they wanted to do not mass expectations... so will just wait and have a listen before deciding. Smile Very exctiing news though - but what a wait! I like the title; I'm sooo glad it's that, not Lippy Kids. So it's a surprise on Boxing Day and the album out on Guy's Boxing Birthday, nice one. Wink

I agree with LWDthat I hope there aren't going to be "special versions" - let's just have one album and no messing/rip-offs - I shall certainly hold fire before preordering - but whatever I'll make sure I get it in good time - can't wait! sunny

Ditto. Is this the end of Elbow as we have known them? Surely not. They have far more integrity than that.........don't they?????

Slightly worried now. pale
