PostSubject: The National    Thu 05 Aug 2010, 11:15

Is there a topic already, can we discuss??

I bought Alligator in 2007, didn't pay much attention until Guy played Geese of Beverly Road on the wireless ages ago!
The past year has been a National frenzy, Matt's voice ruins me, they are absolutely amazing. I have been lucky enough to see them live a few times this year and have a couple more to look forward to when they hit the road again. I have since bought everything they ever have released and I just wanted to say I love them, in an Elbow love kinda way!
Sufjan Stevens played keys on Boxer, so more love to them for that!

Love, love, love The National and ditto with Matt's voice, Longlegs! Very Happy

For me, they were another recommendation from an old workmate with a reputation for spotting quality emergent indie. She herself is something of a die-hard follow 'em-round-the-country-on-tour kind of fan, so obv a bit biased; though her recommendations have always been sound, such as Death Cab for Cutie. Plus, what's not to love in a band with two (four?) Charlie Pace lookalikes? Wink

Looking forward so much to seeing them in November. *squeeee*

High Violet is a tremendously good release, and I've been enjoying it a lot. I have Sirius satellite radio, and they've been playing the bejeezus out of it all summer. Good stuff!

Pretty much all I listen to just now. Even get my Mum singing Bloodbuzz Ohio in the car on shopping trips to Sainsbury's. That's how much they have entered my life! Saw them a few weeks ago in Glasgow. So emotional for me. High Violet was all I listened to during the 4 months I spent living and studying in Berlin this summer and it brought back memories of that time: people, places, experiences and even a wee bit of romance...big softie arent i? But yeah, awesome band. If they were on the bill with Elbow, who would support who? I reckon its a close one...

I don't like too much their sound: the voice and the drums are too high, for me.

High Violet is a remarkable album, and I love Matt's voice.

Yes, thanx. It depends from the arrangement, from the mixing. He has a nice voice, but generally i don't like the way they sound. However, they are surely an interesting band and Runaway is probably one of the best song of the year.

^ I don't really like it because of what you say. I think it could sound way better, but well, then it wouldn't be The National that so many people like. Smile

I've only just recently just discovered The National a few days ago but I've quickly become obsessed with them.

High Violet is just a fantastic album and I'm finding their back catalogue to be fantastic aswell.

I don't know why I started to listen High Violet again since I discussed it here, and I have to say I really like the voice's sound. When I read your post, Final Track, I said: c'mon, let's see if it's that good. And yes, it is.

I think I like it because the singer's voice doesn't sound thaaaaat deep like it did in the previous releases... and Bloodbuzz Ohio. God that song is gold!

Cool Razz Yeah, Bloodbuzz Ohio is great. England is another fantastisk one.
I was singing with Conversation 16 and I could swear he sang "I was afraid I'd eat your brain" and laughed at that. Then it turned out he was.

Ohhh, The National. Where do I start?

They're my biggest discovery of 2010. I kept hearing raves about "High Violet," so I decided to look into them. After hearing a rather lovely live version of "Runaway" via YouTube, I explored further. The next thing I know, I'm in love with them. Matt's voice...I can't even describe it. I have a thing for lower voices, and his voice is sexy in a dark kind of way. The music in itself is wonderful. "High Violet" ended up being my favorite album of last year.
